Twilight's Last Gleaming

I chose this Twilight poster for my friend Jamie who complained that Kristen Stewart never smiled during the movie. I won't be tacky and say that this might be why.

MINOR SPOILER ALERT for all of you who haven't seen the movie based on Stephenie Meyer's engaging, though at times questionably written, series about the most perfect vampire that ever lived and the dopey beyond average girl he falls in love with.

I enjoyed the books and yes, I was excited about the movie, especially given the awesomeness of the trailers. I was also psyched to hear that Catherine Hardwicke had the biggest opening weekend of any female director as I quite liked Lords of Dogtown.

So, you know, boy was I bummed and all that Twilight pretty much sucked (no pun intended).

Some random thoughts:

I did not know that vampires constantly walked around looking bug eyed and constipated. I thought they were cooler than that.

The casting of Nikki Reed as Rosalie was a tragic mistake, especially considering how much that character figures into book four. Now I'm really not looking forward to that film. Seriously, they couldn't find any blonde actresses? Same goes for Peter Facinelli as Carlisle. Was Simon Baker not available? And egads, poor Jackson Rathbone. I swear he actually looks pretty cute in real life (or as real life as that photo is). I never imagined Jasper as some kind of mildly retarded mute.

I used to like Kristen Stewart (Panic Room, anyone?) but am now convinced she cannot complete a sentence. I saw her on Letterman last week and her performance there mirrored that of Bella just a little too closely.

I'm actually a bit surprised that Robert Pattinson (minus his diamond sparkly skin, yeesh) was the highlight here, but he pulled Edward off for the most part... and I liked his Volvo.

Tom thought Charlie was the best. Billy Burke reminded me of a young Tom Skerritt.

I was unhappy about the casting of Jacob, but Taylor Lautner grew on me. I'm looking forward to seeing him as a wolf... but I'm not sure I'm looking forward to New Moon.

So yes, after a five day absence I return to you, dear readers, to poo poo the Twilight. And to think, I could have been watching Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince! Damn you, Warner Bros.!

Rude Much?

I have to say that going to the Springhurst Target (which I do more than I care to admit) often aggravates me because people don't know how to put their carts into those designated cart thingies in the parking lot. I've even blogged about it before. I especially love it when I see carts that are two spaces from the cart return. Talk about lazy ruditude.

However, yesterday took the cake. When I got out of my car I nearly stepped in a pile of cigarettes because some freaking jerkface decided to empty his/her ashtray on the ground! Seriously. There are trash cans all around there. "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU??!!!" is all I have to say. I know there's like a one in a million chance that the person who did this (in front of KY Nails!) is reading my post, but if you are... I'd just like to know why? Really.

Nevermind that smoking is totally nasty. I should know as I gleefully enjoyed my smokes for nearly 20 years before deciding I'd rather breathe or something.

Okay, rant over. Here's a little something for Pat Rock:

Okay, We All Know I Don't Really Like Kids That Much...

But this is kind of cute. Or disturbing. Or cute. I can't tell which. It's too early.

Shiba Inu!

Yes, I have things to say about the election... and Prop 8... but for some reason my whole system just shut down now that hope's taken over. I've more or less stopped watching the news, and I dumped about 50 subscriptions from my Google Reader. I'm also making a new office for myself out at the homestead. For some reason I feel free to rejoin life now that it's... (insert dramatic wailing) worth living! Hee hee.

In the meantime, Shiba Inu cam! Fat fuzzy puppyness makes every day look good (unless you're the one cleaning up afer them as I, who have not slept a full night since the end of September, can attest).

A New Day - Barack Obama Is The President Elect Edition!!!!!

I hope it lives up to its promise, but man, feeling blue never felt so good.

I am a bit sad that I'll never get to see Chuck Todd write "Bush Bush Bush" across my TV screen again (for a minute I thought I was watching Porky's or something).

McCain's concession speech... quite nice and gracious so far. I'm glad to be reminded of the JM I used to like. I hope to like him again in the future. I sort of wonder if he's not a bit relieved. Poor Obama's in for a bit of a poo storm, I'm afraid.

Proposition 8 in California - And Now A Word From Tim Gunn

I hope everyone's going to vote today. I'm not expecting the lines at the Brownsboro Community Center to be too long, but we'll see.

Something I've been meaning to write about is Proposition 8 in California which, if it passes, will ban gay marriage in a state where the California Supreme Court has recently legalized it.

People talk about protecting marriage and the sanctity of marriage, etc etc ad nauseum. I won't talk about the hypocrisy of this viewpoint (because surely these people believe in divorce), but I will say that I believe the protection of marriage rights means rights for all.

I know this is a Kentucky blog, but I have a lot of California readers so this one's for the left coast, ya'll.

And now a word from...

Don't Forget To Vote! - Zack and Miri Make A Porno Edition

(for Obama.)

I would say "Just vote! It doesn't matter who you vote for" and all that, but I wouldn't really mean it. Yes, I said it. Tee hee.

Condolences to Mr. Obama on the passing of his grandma (because I'm sure he reads this).

In other news, I went to see Zack and Miri Make a Porno on Friday and let me tell you, that was skeeve city. The audience consisted of eight men (including bald guy in business attire who took three cell phone calls, 100 year old man, and creepy large dude) who came alone and... Tom and me. I think they were in the Katie Morgan fan club or something... and a bit confused as to what the film was about. I don't understand why Kevin Smith keeps making the same movie over and over and Seth Rogen keeps playing the same character over and over. Yeah, we get it, you're crass yet sensitive. Zzzz... I did laugh, though. More than once.

Fair's Fair - John McCain on Saturday Night Live

Opening Sketch:

Weekend Update:

I admit I laughed and felt a bit better about McCain that he can still laugh at himself. If only the McCain of 2000 had run for President.

Fred Thompson's on Meet the Press right now. Why? He should go back to Law and Order.
