Song For A Day - Do They Know It's Christmas?

I really meant to write last week but who knew that going to work actually meant working?!! Sheesh.

I hope you're all having a dandy holiday season filled with love and joy and all that stuff.

In honor of the holly/merry thing, I bring you that 1984 classic, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" Man, I still love this freaking song. Can't say much for the lyrics but seriously, when I was 14 I used to watch this video over and over just for glimpses of my beloved Duran Duran. This is an Anglophile's dream montage. It's excellent to see the mulleted Bono pre-sunglasses and the dashing Paul Weller. And what up with Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet singing with his forefinger on his chin as if to convety that "Feed the world" truly is food for thought.

I'll try to do something blogworthy next week but my fave new show Hoarders is on repeat. Life has a little less meaning now.

Alrighty then, Happy Christmas peeps. I hope you get some good loot.

Song For A Day - Kim & Jessie

M83 live at KCRW performing a song that I keep talking about like a broken record I heart it so much.

THANKS YAEL for making me aware of the joys of these Frenchies.

I wonder how long it will take me to wear this song out... I've already burned through "Temezcal" and "I See You."

I'm off to Austin this week. I'm looking forward to seeing friends and working in the veal stall. I am not looking forward to waking up at 4.30 am on Wednesday and getting on a plane. Thank G I have The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks to keep me company. Yes, I am a DS nerd.

Alright, I have to go find more Christmas presents for Tom. Speaking of, you can follow him on Twitter @sometomguy. He's purty funny and stuff and you can see a l'il pic of our pooch Abe.

Song For A Day - She's Like The Wind

This is in honor of Dennis Sheridan, formerly of Follow the Train, currently of Creature Island. Creature Island is playing Zanzabar tonight. I've heard good things about Z Bar and am hoping I can up my cool quotient by being seen there. Okay, not really. Nothing will make me cool (besides posting Patrick Swayze videos).

Anyway, yes, ladies and gentlemen, I am leaving my house to go see a show... at a bar... two things I have not done all year. I'm totally going to get drunk and fall on my face to signal to people that, "Hey, yeah, it's true, I don't get out much." Since I'm allergic to alcohol, it will take approximately two sips of a beer to get this way. Take pity on Tom and our friend Shane. It's gon get ugly. Oh, just kitten.

If you're in the Greater Louisiville Metro Area thingy come check out La Isla Criatura. They're on around 9, I hear. Zanzabar's in Germantown which is apparently the new Highlands.

SEE YOU THERE, PEEPS.

Oh wait, one more thing...

Laughing at the complete lack of video, but this be the jamz, yo.

Song For A Day - Staralfur

Because it's still and cold and bright outside.

Because I haven't written in what, a week? Whoops.

Because even though I did not like The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou at all, I did love the scene where they finally found the Jaguar Shark.

Because I often miss Iceland and wish I could go back.

Because I sorta wish everything were this beautiful all of the time.

Song For A Day - Revved Up

And you.. hate me, too.

Sorry there's no video for this, but I couldn't find one. I may be the lone member in the tripl3fastaction fan club. If not, let me know.

They say the 90s are coming back and generally I feel pretty barfy about that... until I hear my fave songs from Broadcaster and then I'm like BRING IT ON!

Song For A Day - Sovay

One of my favorite My Morning Jacket tours was when Andrew Bird came along as support and did a few songs with the band every show (my other fave, when MMJ supported Doves).

Quiet and sort of dreamy, Andrew was fun to get to know, and I still laugh when I think about how we dragged him to a casino on some boat in St. Louis which was as dreadful as you can imagine. I spent half that tour TM'ing MMJ and Andrew and half with M. Ward. That was a lucky spring though I'm almost positive that aside from the joy in watching MMJ back up Andrew and Matt, I surely did not appreciate my lot in life.

Anyway, "Sovay" is my favorite Andrew Bird song so here it is in all its whistling divine glory. To this day he remains the only person whose whistling does not make me feel stabby.

Oh, and here's another version of the song with MMJ. Apparently it was recorded in Boulder in 2004 which means I would have been there, but of course I don't remember a thing. I need a time travel machine so I can go back and watch my life because clearly living it isn't catching my attention nearly well enough.

Song For A Day - Your Ex-Lover Is Dead

Because it's raining and cold and I feel a little melancholy and I love ice-skating and Canadians are just so nice and these voices so sweet and big ol' sweeping songs make my tiny heart feel so full.

Song For A Day - Rainbow Connection

I cry every time I hear this song. I bet @cryingdawson does, too.

Gleeful

If you don't already watch Glee, you totally should... not just for the Neil Diamond... and even though Fox is screwing with us by taking the show away for four months. You can catch the last two episodes before it goes on hiatus this week and next.

Spin caught up with the cast for some mildly interesting interviews. You can watch here. I find them hilarious, though, because Tom's head is hovering in the background of several of the shots under the headline "Scarlett Johansson Does Tom."

Okay... that is all. For now.
