Weekend Whimsy

I hate it when people talk about the weather but I must say, holy cow! What an amazing day!! I plan on enjoying every moment of you, 70 degrees, because I know you're going away again.

Time is short but here's what's coming up. Tomorrow morning I'm writing the weekly politics/Rock of Love wrap-up early so I can do some semi-live blogging of the Emmys. I'll do a red carpet edition and a separate post covering the show, which I'm not really looking forward to because Ryan Seacrest is the host. Euw (even if he was funny in Knocked Up).

I also want to write about books someday soon because one of my favorite authors, Ellen Emerson White, told me she likes to find out what other people are reading. Normally I'm a voracious reader but lately I've been in a bit of a slump.

I have a few minutes so I'll spend it talking about the completely vacuous topic of celebrity crushes (something my friend Elizabeth and I have been discussing lately). The tenor of my celeb crushing has changed in recent years. I used to favor the young and pretty (and, okay, I still like Rafael Nadal) but now I prefer them a bit more erudite and manly with a sense of humor (Brian Williams). I never have crushes on musicians anymore because I know what most of them are like, and I'm married to the best one out there so, really, why bother? ;) (Please excuse that smiley.) As far as actors go, my crushes are strictly role specific, probably because I know what they're like, too. Here are some of my recent cc's: Clive Owen (okay, Clive Owen gets the "in anything" distinction), Daniel Craig (as James Bond, except when he's skipping around Italy like a love-sick puppy), Mads Mikkelsen (in King Arthur, not Casino Royale), Ted Levine (in Monk, obviously, not Silence of the Lambs), Ken Watanabe (Last Samurai not Batman Begins), and, uh, Ted Koppel (I know this makes me a bit weird, but he's funny, smart and has a great voice, what can I say?!)

Who are some of yours?

Off to feel the wind in my hair!
Ms. P

ps. Yes, I have a crush on the Silver Surfer, too! I heart Norrin Radd!

  1. Celebrity crushes... I love discussing this, but I don't really have many of them.
For a long time, I had one on Busta Rhymes (with and without dreadlocks), after seeing what a fantastic, animated and energetic performing artist he is. He just seems like fun, but he's still a little rough around the edges. Momma likes.
Matthew McConaughey and his abs. Totally predictable, but whatevs. He looks good sweating ("At Time to Kill") and standing around at the beach (every third issue of Us Weekly).
I have a mega gay-best-friend crush on Tim Gunn. And a she's-too-beautiful-to-be-denied crush on Scarlett Johannsson.
Wait, brain glitch -- how could I forget to mention the undeniably sexy and infinately talented Bret Michaels??? If only I would have known about "Rock of Love" before I got married ...

  2. I have a crush on Natalie Portman (except when she's in a galaxy, far far away)

  3. Matthew McConaughey, though his catchphrase "Just keep livin'" makes me want to barf, was pretty hot in A Time to Kill. I think all girls have a gay bff crush on Tim Gunn. If they don't, they should, TG's Guide to Style excepted.

Please tell me you're joking about Bret Michaels. Pretty please.

Natalie Portman I like but only when she's bald and blowing up Parliament.

  4. :) why you made me blush dear

hrm.. can only think of two: Rosario Dawson, but only when she's playing bass and wearing cat ears (wow, i publicly admitted i've watched that horrible movie. though Du Jour was hilarious). oh, and Kitty Pride. yes, she is a fictional character, but i suppose all of our celeb crushees are.

  5. Ms. P, of COURSE I'm kidding about Bret Michael! :) I'd rather eat my own food than go out with him.

  6. Whew. Does this mean you're a lousy cook? What did you think about Lacey getting tossed?

  7. Thanks for the shout-out, dude.

But, didn't you forget to mention George Clooney?

I've also always had a thing for David Strathairn.

  8. You commented on my blog! Goodness!! I'm with you on Strathairn. He was so cute in Sneakers. Clooney - occasionally - but there's something a bit smug about him, maybe? He can be quite dashing, though. His father ran for House of Representatives in my district but of course I live in the redlands and he lost.
